CMS scandal needs a dramatic intervention

Daily Express

THE obvious lesson to learn from the excellent Mr Bates vs The Post Office is the sheer power of the media. This disgraceful situation had been going on for years, had been getting coverage from time to time, had been before the courts and still both the Post Office and ministers (including the now leader of the Lib Dems) dragged their heels and got away with it, even while desperate souls took their own lives.

CMS scandal needs a dramatic intervention

Now suddenly the PM himself gets involved and the falsely accused subpostmasters are at last offered the justice to which they were entitled many years ago (the problem began in 1999) and the only thing which has galvanised the powers that be into action is a television series.

Well let me make a suggestion to the programmemakers. There is another, even larger, group of Brits who are being persecuted not by faceless computers but by government officials and who are also taking their own lives.
