Study: PHL firms wary of letting AI make final hiring decisions

ARTIFICIAL intelligence (AI) is increasingly taking over repetitive human resource (HR) functions in the Philippines, but strategic judgment and final hiring decisions remain firmly in human hands, according to global talent solutions firm Robert Walters.

- By BLess AuBrREY OGERIO

Kimberlyn Lu, Robert Walters Southeast Asia CEO, said the first wave of AI adoption in workplaces has largely focused on automating routine and administrative tasks, while companies continue to exercise caution over allowing the technology to independently make critical workforce decisions.

“While the initial phase of AI adoption focuses on automating routine tasks, the real work lies in strategic evaluation,” Lu said.

New research from Robert Walters showed that only 28 percent of HR leaders in the country are confident in using AI to make final hiring decisions without human supervision.

The firm said the low figure reflects how companies still see AI primarily as a support tool for processing data and improving operational efficiency rather than replacing human decision-making in recruitment.
