Cowboy builder left in tears after avoiding jail
Birmingham Post
|July 10, 2025
A COWBOY builder ripped off customers for thousands of pounds by promising to carry out work but then never showing up, a court heard.

Mark Carey mainly advertised the services of MTC Landscaping and Solutions on Facebook.
The 42-year-old started the business legitimately but then began conning people, blaming a downturn in his mental health as he abused alcohol and painkillers.
Carey, of Hazelwell Drive, Kings Heath, admitted an offence of fraudulent trading.
He narrowly avoided immediate jail at Birmingham Crown Court, despite a judge saying she was 'disgusted' by his actions.
Instead, he was sentenced to 11 months, suspended for two years.
Carey was also ordered to carry out 30 days of rehabilitation activity and adhere to a two-month curfew between the hours of 10pm and 7am. The judge concluded he did not have the financial means to pay any victim compensation or contribute to the prosecution costs.
