BOSSES at the restaurant that hit the headlines when Hollywood star Johnny Depp spent £50,000 on a night out there says it may have lost business after a 'glitch' on a food hygiene website.

Birmingham City Council has apologised to Varanasi, in Broad Street, for displaying an incorrect hygiene rating for months.

Staff said they potentially suffered a loss of business as a result of the delay in updating its rating from a 2 to a 5 for three months.

The city centre Indian restaurant failed its food hygiene rating with a score of 2 (improvement necessary) on January 14 this year after inspectors found that while food handling and food management safety were generally satisfactory, improvements were necessary for cleanliness and condition of the building.
