Anti-LGBTQ law ‘against human rights’

A law passed by Senegal's parliament this week doubling the maximum jail term for consensual same-sex relations to 10 years violates a range of human rights, the United Nations said Thursday.

The passage of the new law "is deeply worrying," UN rights chief Volker Turk said in a statement.

"It flies in the face of the sacrosanct human rights we all enjoy: the right to respect, dignity, privacy, equality and freedoms of expression, association and peaceful assembly."
