Council employee dismissed amid serious allegation

- PAUL BEHAN

Police are investigating reports that a nine-year-old autistic child was assaulted at an additional support needs school in Cumnock.

The Post can reveal that a probe is now underway to establish the circumstances of the alleged incident.

It's understood that a council employee at the centre of the allegation has been dismissed.

East Ayrshire Council declined to comment on the incident but did say in a statement that a review is underway and the individual concerned is “no longer employed by the council.”

Their statement reads: “East Ayrshire Council is unable to comment on individual cases. On this occasion, however, it can confirm that the individual concerned is no longer employed by the Council. A full review of the matter is now underway.”

In a related development, a letter was issued to parents/guardians at the school on Monday by Linda McAulay-Griffiths, the local authority's education boss.
