Paula Will Have You Put on Your ...ATHERTON

Smooth jazz saxtress, flutist, vocalist, and 2024 Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year Nominee Paula Atherton's latest creation, “Dancin’ Shoes,” is her 7th album and it does not disappoint.

This album is a great combination of songs that blends rhythms, tempos, and flavors sure to delight. Atherton brings us the of beauty and joy of her flute, vocals, and both alto and baritone saxophones.

The album features eleven solid tracks. Given the album's title, it's no surprise that seven of these eleven deliver a fast tempo. The remaining four tracks are divided into those of twomid-tempo and two of the slow burn. Atherton wrote or co-wrote seven out of the eleven songs. She also brings some notable musical and production talent to this work by collaborating with industry greats such as Dr. Adam Hawley, Curtis Harmon of Pieces of a Dream, Greg Manning, and Cindy Bradley.

“Baila” is the album’s first track. For those who don’t know, the word literally means “dance” in Spanish. This is one of my favorites. It is spicy, fast, and will make anyone listening want to get up and dance a salsa. Atherton entertains us beautifully here and demonstrates her wonderful skills on the flute with full force and effect.
