Paul Taylor

The album, his 13th "It's A Brand New Day," could not be more appropriately titled as Taylor celebrates this theme of newness in several ways.

Paul is enjoying not only this new recording release, but a new year, and on a new journey with his record label, Shanachie Entertainment.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Paul found his love of the saxophone at the young age of 7. His love for music and the instrument grew strong. Taylor's musical influences include many great talents including the late David Sanborn, the late John Coltrane, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and others, but when you ask him, you will find out that truly his musical hero lies in the cherished memory of the remarkable, late Grover Washington, Jr.

imageDuring his school years, Paul and some of his classmates formed their own R&B/Funk band. At the time, Grover Washington, Jr.'s influence in the industry was at a high due to the impact of his ultra-famous hit "Mr. Magic." Taylor describes that indelible impact as "hitting," as Paul and his friends were big fans of Washington and his music. They even gathered together and traveled to Boulder, Colorado to attend one of Washington's concerts. Taylor recalls with fondness, the thrilling memory of waiting after the concert to see if he and his friends would get the chance to see Grover come out afterwards. As any Smooth Jazz lover who has had the greatest pleasure of meeting their favorite artist can relate, Paul too, was blessed with this experience as a teen when his favorite, Grover Washington, Jr., did in fact, make an appearance post-show to receive this eager group of young music fans, undoubtedly changing their lives, in particular, Taylor's forever. Paul shares, "I wanted to be Grover...to be able to write, create, and perform my own music and travel doing what he did." and travel doing what he did."
