When Ree heads to snowy Vail, CO, in the winter, she brings her “trusty old aluminum foil coat.” (She jokes that “it not only keeps me warm, it doubles as an iPhone charger!”) Modern poufy outerwear first arrived in 1936, when Eddie Bauer designed a quilted down jacket after freezing rain on a fishing trip nearly did him in. In the 1970s, designer Norma Kamali went camping and got inspired to cut a coat from a sleeping bag. The look took off, and it keeps getting better!
