Toyota's Gazoo Racing-fettled GR Yaris Rally is an invigorating addition to the hot hatch segment. For GQ Motoring Ed Dieter Losskarn, it was like ordering pistachio ice cream and instead receiving a scoop of wasabi.

It would look ridiculous on any other hot hatch, but this fighting dwarf absolutely suits the cartoonish character of this car. Visually, the pugnacious little performance hatch bristles with distinctive touches and has about as much to do with the regular Yaris as politicians have with the truth. The eye-catching coupé silhouette dispenses with the rear doors and the front ones are sporty, frameless items, while the back part of the roof slopes down more, 91mm to be exact, than that of the standard model. The front grille is big, really big, and features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, the rear spoiler and a carbon-fibre reinforced roof all add to the GR's street cred.
