GAME CHANGERS OF NEW INDIA : THE VIKSIT BHARAT STORY

Anil Agarwal: The Visionary Behind Vedanta's Global Rise

A first-generation entrepreneur who turned a small venture into a global giant and invested in people along the way.

imageAnil Agarwal, the man behind Vedanta, was born in Patna, Bihar. His journey is a story of big dreams, risk-taking, and a deep belief in India's potential. He is a man who turned small beginnings into a global success story. With little money but a bold vision, he built Vedanta into one of the world's leading natural resources companies. His journey is about big risks, bigger dreams, and a strong belief in India's future.

He did not come from a rich business family. In 1976, he started small, with little money but a big vision. Under his leadership, Vedanta grew from a local metal business into a global company. It now works in oil and gas, zinc, silver, aluminium, copper, iron, steel and power. The company creates jobs for thousands and contributes to India's growth.

In 2003, Agarwal became the first Indian to list his company on the London Stock Exchange. At that time, he felt Indian businesses were not valued fairly in the local market. He wanted recognition and fair value, so he moved to London and made it happen. That bold step changed the course of Vedanta forever.

But Agarwal's story is not just about building a big company. He has always believed that business must give back to people. Over the years, he has made large investments in India's metals and mining sector to help the country become self-sufficient. He also strongly supports small businesses. Through the Vedanta Saathi programme, MSMEs get the tools and services they need to grow and provide jobs.
