Is the Jimny suitable for overlanding?

Recently, the most frequent question popping into my inbox is whether the Suzuki Jimny is suitable for overlanding or not.

The answer is not as simple as a yes or a no. To accurately answer this question, we have purchased our own Jimny to see what can and cannot be done to determine its suitability for overlanding. I will report back once we have kitted this little gem out and taken it on a serious overlanding trip. In the meantime, here is my take based on theory for now.

Small-city runabout vehicles are very popular. Depending on the brand, they are generally relatively cheap to run and ever increasingly reliable. Suzuki as a brand is popular and regularly features in the top three brands by vehicle sales in the country. They are experts at fun, reliable small-city cars. Furthermore, the Jimny always seems to have a waiting list for prospective buyers.
