Top Teams Left Reeling As UCI Unveils Sweeping Track Reforms

Surprising and ‘destructive’ programme amendments leave teams angry and confused

Track cycling will return to a summer calendar in 2021 after the UCI announced sweeping reforms to the track programme.

To increase visibility of the sport the governing body will move the track World Cups — to be called Track Cycling Nations Cups — to July, August and September and hold the World Championships in October.

The changes have been made with seemingly no consultation with national federations. Neither the British nor the Australians, the two squads that have dominated track for the last 15 years, knew the changes were coming and were left questioning what the aims were.
