The Tanglin star, F&B towkay and perennial bachelor has opened a watch shop with his Japanese girlfriend of seven years. He talks to us about watch-buying and his super low-profile relationship.
To those who like watching TV, Adam Chen is a familiar face, having starred in Ch 5’s long running drama Tanglin. To those who like eating, well, he’s also a familiar figure in the F&B scene as the towkay of restaurants like the chicken-centric yakitori joint Birders and the Five izakaya bar chain. Recently, the 41-year-old has ventured into selling watches, as the silent partner of the local outlet of Japanese indie watch brand Knot Maker’s Watch. Why watches? “F&B gets tougher and tougher every year, and I was feeling a bit burnt out. A watch shop is less labour-intensive. Believe me, I have gone through a lot of options [when thinking about new business ideas]. I am not particularly interested in selling clothes; the barriers to entry are too high and there are too many blogshops out there,” Adam explains, as he shows us around his styli
