The always-glam FANN WONG goes glum for her first major movie role in three years.
We are watching a scene from the new Fann Wong movie, Taiwanese indie Packages from Daddy, where the actress, reeling from the suicide of her onscreen hubby, is engaged in an intense screaming match with her two kids. She looks plain and almost unrecognisable, a far cry from the Fann we know. The movie, a slow-burner about depression and loss, is also not the type of movie we expect to see the 45-year-old star in. “I read the script and I really loved it,” says Fann when we meet her for a chat after the screening. “As a mum, I can really connect with the role. I have many friends who are single mothers, and I know people who have depression. This movie touches on issues that are very dear to me, and I think the audience will be able to relate to it.”
