WHY IS WORKING OUT AT HOME CRUCIAL FOR SO MANY WOMEN?
Home workouts are phenomenal and they are hugely popular for a very good reason. Practical and accessible, they remove almost all barriers to exercise because you don't need any fancy equipment, you don't need to take time out of your busy day to travel to and from the gym, you don’t need childcare, and can enjoy a great workout in a very small space. When I first started doing home workouts, I didn’t have any fancy fitness trackers or cute workout clothes. I had one pair of tennis shoes that I'd had since high school, and I was just working out in the hallway of our one-bedroom basement apartment when I had 15-30 minutes spare, usually when my son Anderson fell asleep.
ARE YOU SAYING YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO TO THE GYM TO GET A GOOD WORKOUT?
Absolutely. Some of my home workout programmes are my most beloved. And as a trainer, I want women to understand that you don't need all the bells and whistles or access to a fancy gym to get healthy. All you need is your body and the intrinsic motivation to say, 'I will move my body to take care of it, or celebrate it, or help my health'. I also believe that beginning to work out for the first time - or beginning again - is a massive endeavour, so why make that more complicated and more difficult than it needs to be? Let's not forget that gymtimidation is real, whereas exercising at home allows you to be more efficient with your time and create a safe space to train in because no one’s looking at you. And that relieves a lot of the pressure.
