Woman's World
|September 09, 2024
The sun is bright, warm breezes are blowing and plants are blooming all around us—including pesky ragweed. The weed begins releasing pollen in August and keeps producing it well into fall, triggering miserable allergy symptoms such as sneezing, sniffling and itching for 23 million of us. Luckily, relief is at hand: These simple, natural strategies can prevent hay fever flares and soothe symptoms if you’re already suffering
Cook with the 'golden spice'
The turmeric that makes a tasty addition to chicken, rice, veggies and even eggs has been used to soothe allergies in India for centuries. And for good reason: A study published in the journal Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology found that curcumin, a compound that abounds in the spice, reduced stuffiness and sneezing as effectively as the antihistamine cetirizine. Experts explain that curcumin suppresses immune system proteins that amp up allergic responses. Tip: When cooking with turmeric, add a pinch of black pepper to your dish too. It's high in piperine, a unique compound that makes curcumin up to 2,000% more available to the body.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW
From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays
The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
