Dodge diabetes by snacking on apples
Now that apples are in season, it’s a perfect time to display a bowl full of them on your kitchen counter. And when you snack on them, you’ll be lowering your risk of type 2 diabetes. A Harvard Medical School study found that those who ate 2 to 6 apples per week were 28% less likely to develop the disease. Not an apple fan? The same study found that drinking 4 cups of tea every day curbs diabetes risk by 27%. Researchers suspect that catechins in apples and tea keep insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas healthy by reducing oxidative damage.

Go ahead and let the sun shine in. A U.K. study found people who get regular sun exposure have lower insulin levels and better insulin sensitivity. Sunlight increases the production of melatonin, which improves glucose metabolism.
