The nuts you put out at holiday parties are a heart-healthy everyday snack, according to researchers reporting in the journal BMC Medicine.

In fact, their analysis of 12 studies found that eating 28 grams (about a handful) of nuts such as peanuts, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios daily reduces heart disease risk by 29%. Credit goes to nut nutrients like fiber, magnesium and polyunsaturated fats, which reduce heart disease risk factors such as high cholesterol and insulin resistance.
