When the owner of a market saved a customer by doing CPR, he realized his store needed a portable defibrillator. Today, he has one-because the man he saved wants to pay the good deed forward!
"These are my favorite," Fred Bivins, 73, said, as he placed a package of smoked kielbasa on the counter of Lewandoski's Market in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
It was Friday afternoon, and besides Fred, the only people in the store were the owner, Gary Szotko, and his son, Alex wife's The men spoke for a while, then Fred headed to the front door. But as he was about to step outside, he turned back.
Guess we're not done talking, Gary thought, but Fred didn't say a word. Instead, his eyes rolled back in his head, and he dropped to the floor, striking his head hard against the front windowsill.
"Call 911!" Gary shouted to Alex as he sprang to Fred's side.
Fred's scalp was bleeding, but he was breathing. Then a moment later, his heart suddenly stopped.
