Spend a weekend in relaxed Portrush and you'll have gems like the Causeway at your fingertips

Land of GIANTS

Dreaming of a refreshing weekend away, surrounded by lush green scenery and stunning rugged coastlines? Then look to Portrush, on Northern Ireland's magnificent Causeway Coast.

This idyllic seaside town has long been known as a popular golfing destination; in fact, it hosted elite competition The Open just last summer. But you don't have to be a fan of the sport to enjoy a holiday here. Situated on the north coast of County Antrim, Portrush is bursting with varied activities: boutiques and art galleries, antique shops and locally sourced seafood spots, brilliant beaches and even a year-round mini theme park. It is easily navigable on foot, close to UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant's Causeway, and spring is a fabulous time to discover it.

One of Portrush's greatest draws is its beautiful Blue Flag beaches. The main three – West Strand, East Strand and Whiterocks – boast golden sands and offer breathtaking views of the craggy coves and caves out to sea.

One of the best ways to investigate these inlets is by getting on the water. Alive Adventures (aliveadventures.co.uk) offers paddleboarding and surfing lessons for all abilities, and the instructors are friendly and informative.
