Baby BLANKET

Cutting instructions

From print cotton fabric scraps, cut 16 3⅞x3⅞in squares, From medium-loft fusible batting, cut one 13x13in square and one 7x7in square.

1 Place two of the print squares together with the right sides facing and follow the half square triangle (HST) instruction in the panel, right. Press the seam allowance over to the darker fabric. Using a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat, trim the excess seam allowance and square to 3½in. Repeat to create 16 HST in total. Arrange the squares into four rows of four squares. Move the squares around until you are happy with the placement.

2 Working with two squares at a time and placing them right sides together, follow steps 2-4 of ‘Half square triangles’ panel, below, to join the squares to make four rows and press the seams in alternate directions. Place the first two squares of the first row together with their right sides facing. Align the raw edges and pin or clip into place. Sew together using a straight machine stitch and a 1⁄4in seam allowance, removing each pin just before you come to it. Open out the first two squares. Take the third square in the first row and, with the right sides facing, place it on to the right-hand side of the second square and join together as before. Repeat until you have four rows. Press the seam allowances in opposite directions on alternate rows.
