A Woman's Guide to a Healthier Heart.

- Meghana Gaikwad- Barve

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women worldwide, yet it is often misunderstood or underestimated. Many women still believe heart issues are primarily a man's concern, but the reality is that one in three female deaths globally is due to cardiovascular disease. What makes this even more concerning is that women frequently experience atypical symptoms—such as fatigue, nausea, back or jaw pain, and shortness of breath—that differ from the classic chest pain seen in men. These subtler signs often lead to delayed diagnoses and missed treatment opportunities.

Understanding personal risk factors is the first step toward prevention. While age and family history play a role, many risk factors are modifiable. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and chronic stress are all significant contributors to heart disease.
