JAY-JAY'S ROMANCE RIDDLE 'AMI ENGAGED? I THINK SO!'

On a dream trip to Vanuatu, the radio legend revals she and her boyfriend Minou are talking about marriage

Sipping on French bubbly while lapping up the sunshine on Vanuatu's beautiful Champagne Beach, Jay-Jay is feeling pretty darn lucky as she celebrates her 51st birthday in paradise.

“I thought today was going to be very low-key, but in the end, it’s been so much fun,” she grins, speaking to Woman's Day while stretched out on her towel under a palm tree. “I feel so special and spoilt.”

The radio legend - who now runs the Podlab podcast company alongside her ex Dominic Harvey - started her day at Turtle Bay Lodge, on the idyllic island of Espiritu Santo, where resort staff sang Happy Birthday while Jay-Jay enjoyed a breakfast of tropical fruit. Then the resort's manager surprised her with a gift of flowers, candles and perfume, all organised by Dom.

She was then chauffered to Champagne Beach, regularly voted one of the most stunning stretches of sand in the world, where local performers, the Leweton Water Music Ladies, put on a special concert amid the crystal-clear waves, using the surface of the water as an instrument to play their songs.

The gig ended with the women presenting Jay-Jay with a flower crown and ushering her to join them in the sea, where they serenaded her with another joyous, splashier rendition of Happy Birthday.

“It was embarrassing because I hate being the centre of attention, but it was amazing,” she smiles. “And now we're having cake and actual Champagne on the beach. What a life!”

Asked how she feels about turning 51, Jay-Jay says, “It feels like my 50th was only five minutes ago, so it's a bit of a shock - and saying it out loud makes me feel so middle-aged. You notice a big difference in the way people treat you. I feel like the world is quite ageist. On this side of 50, you feel more like an observer of the world, rather than a participant.
