'WE'RE STILL WAITING FOR OUR MILLIONAIRE!'

Newsagent Sue has seen millionaires come and go but there's one she's desperate to meet

Sue Matt remembers the newsagency that was the focal point of her childhood. It was the place to buy her precious back-to-school stationery and the magazines she and her friends pored over. She'd buy lollies and birthday cards there and it also had a bird aviary outside so if you ever got lost at the shopping centre it was the place you'd know to meet your mum!

As newsagents were, and to some extent still are, it was the heart of the community and when Sue grew up she and her husband Andrew went on to buy their own.

"Andrew and I met in banking but he always had aspirations to buy a newsagents as a good, steady business. We bought our first in Maryborough [Qld] in 1991. I was 24," Sue, now in her 50s and a career newsagent tells Woman's Day.

The pair worked alongside each other until they bought a second store, which Sue managed alone.

“You'd come to the newsagents for everything back then. The supermarkets didn’t sell newspapers or magazines and there was no online news so it was fast-paced,” she says, remembering queues out the door to buy the paper on big news days.
