QLD SUNSHINE COAST + HINTERLAND

There's nothing quite like escaping to the Sunshine Coast hinterland for a full immersion in nature. Quieter than its coastal neighbour, the hinterland offers the chance to explore mountain villages, climb volcanic peaks, chase waterfalls and swim in pristine water holes.

CAMP OUT Stay at Maleny Showgrounds, where there are toilets, powered and unpowered sites and coin-operated showers. There are no bookings, so it's best to get in early to get a spot.

A beautiful spot to camp is Booloumba Creek Camp in Conondale National Park. There are three different areas to choose from, although only camping area 1 is suitable for campervans and trailers. All three are unpowered but with toilets and easy creek access. Sites are limited so book ahead at parks.desi.qld.gov.au

KATHERINE

Katherine is where the outback meets the tropics, making it a perfect spot to cool off. Known as the gateway to Nitmiluk National Park this region is famous for its natural hot springs.

CAMP OUT A great camp for families, Katherine Farmstay is a working farm-turned-campground on the Katherine River. There are daily feedings of the resident animals including a saltwater crocodile and water buffalo. Bookings
