The Australian television industry was left reeling last week following the shock announcement that long-serving Australian Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia had been given the boot from the franchise after almost a decade at the helm. But as it turned out, no one was more shocked by the news than JLP himself.

Taking to social media, the 55-year-old, who began hosting the Ten series in 2016, wrote a lengthy post confirming his departure. “Australian Survivor has seen some of the most epic blindsides over the last 10 years, but this one might just be the craziest of them all... because it happened to me,” he began.

“I received a call from the network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show but for next season they are ‘going in a different direction.”

The presenter and actor said a decline in ratings was cited as the reason he was let go, with the network looking to “shake things up” drastically.
