Save seeds and MONEY!
WOMAN'S WEEKLY
|September 27, 2022
Now is the ideal time to harvest seeds from your garden, saving money on next year's planting
Summer may be fading, but it's never too early to start thinking about the next one. In fact, September is the perfect month to gather your garden's most precious treasure. Preserving seed from cherished plants and flowers at the end of their life cycle means you can enjoy them year after year. And it won't cost you a penny!
Snip, crack and pop
Many flowers, including poppies, nasturtiums, calendula, and sedum, are ripe for seed-saving once the blooms wilt and pods or seedheads have changed from green to brown. Choose a dry, sunny day, then snip them off and spread them out somewhere warm. Once dry, crack open the heads or gently crush to release the seed.
