Suffering from a dry, red or itchy complexion? Our expert tips will help keep it healthy and happy

Skin feeling sensitive? You're not alone. Almost two thirds of Brits have experienced it at some point, according to The British Skin Foundation. At this time of year, with changeable weather and temperatures, hay fever, bug bites and spending more time outdoors, skin issues can flare up. Don't want to spend the season feeling itchy? Here's what you need to know.
Eczema
An inflammation of the skin that can affect any part of the body, symptoms include itching, redness, swelling, weeping and cracking of the skin.
Look for triggers. 'The most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis – an allergic condition linked to other atopic allergies, such as asthma and hay fever,' says consultant dermatologist Dr Adam Friedmann. Food can cause flare-ups, with common causes being eggs and dairy. Keep a diary to track triggers.
Use steroids safely. While topical steroids have their place, prolonged use can cause long-term damage, says dermatologist Dr Mary Sommerlad. 'You should only ever use topical steroids under the advice of your GP or dermatologist, and never use them for long periods of time.'
Psoriasis
This speeds up the life cycle of skin cells, so they reproduce quicker, leading to dry, itchy and sore skin.
Keep cool. With the weather improving, turn the heating down, as it can dry out skin, making conditions such as psoriasis and eczema worse.
