BEAT PAIN FAST!

Pain is a very personal experience – no one else can see it and, sometimes, it can feel like you’re the only one suffering. But almost 10 million Brits are affected regularly, according to the British Pain Society, which impacts quality of life and can force us to stop socialising or working. The good news? There are many tricks to ease pain – and you don’t always have to pop a pill!

Plantar fasciitis

One in 10 adults will experience plantar fasciitis – or foot pain – at some point. It happens when the band of tissue that runs from the heel to the toes becomes inflamed and causes pain.

SORT YOUR SHOES

Avoid wearing ballet shoes, flip-flops or other flat shoes. Heels, albeit low ones, can help to ease tension. Or try trainers with arch support.

WEAR A NIGHT SPLINT

The boot-like device lifts your toes and holds your foot in a gentle stretch all night.

imageWORK IT OUT

Sit on a chair or on the floor and bend the knee of the affected foot until you reach your toes with your hand. Pull toes towards you, until you feel the stretch in the bottom of your foot. Hold for 20 seconds. Repeat three to five times daily. Can’t reach your feet? Wrap a tea towel around your feet instead.

Neck stiffness

Slumping on the sofa can lead to compression at the back of your neck, causing a trapped nerve.
