Lorraine Kelly on her ITV daytime show and becoming a granny

- ARIANA LONGSON

I'd work TILL I'M 95!

She's been a staple on daytime television for 40 years and in many ways Lorraine Kelly is like a friend to viewers, sharing her struggles and going through big milestones - like recently becoming a grandma - with them by her side. It's this relatability and friendly demeanour that has kept her on our screens for four decades and has seen her become one of ITV's most treasured presenters, even receiving a special BAFTA honour last year. Here the star, 65, talks about retiring, her latest venture and why being 'Granny Smith' is her favourite role yet.

In the last year, Lorraine has taken a well deserved break when it comes to presenting, with Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh filling in for her on Fridays. And while some have unkindly scrutinised the move, the telly star understandably doesn't regret it one bit.

'Not presenting on Fridays gives me a chance to breathe and brings me in line with everyone else,' she told woman&home. 'I wasn't sure about it at first because I've been working five days a week for 40 years. It was a wee bit of a wrench,' but Lorraine explains, 'Sometimes you've got to take a step back in order to appreciate what you've got, and it has certainly made life a lot easier with my mum not being well.'
