Joel Dommett talks hosting the NTAs, balancing fatherhood and work, and the fun of live TV
-

Joel Dommett is in demand - from The Masked Singer to This Morning and, for the fifth year in a row, the National Television Awards. When we caught up with Joel, 40, just ahead of the NTAs, he was in great spirits, showing no signs of getting tired of his busy TV presenting schedule. However, he admits that having a young family - he and wife Hannah have son Wilde, who turns two this month - means he is trying to get his work-life balance better. Here, he talks us through NTA nerves and why he wants to be the next Dermot O'Leary... or even the next Sir Trevor McDonald!
What made you sign up for a fifth year of the NTAs?
Honestly, because it's so much fun. Once all the stress of writing and preparing is done, the night is just one massive party. And that's perfect for me - I'm not great at partying, but I love working. So if I can work at a party, everyone's happy!
Do you feel the weight of how important it is for the nominees?
Definitely. Sometimes I forget in the moment, because I'm so wrapped up in the show - but when someone makes a heartfelt speech, it hits me.
Can you give us a sense of what to expect this year?
The NTAs turn 30, and ITV turns 70, so there's a celebratory feel. We're looking back at past winners, musical performances... all those iconic moments that stick in people's minds.

Try team sports at any age
Here's a common train of thought among some (those who haven't yet discovered the joys of movement!) that any exercise which benefits our health, strengthens bones and muscle and aids in the quest to reduce fat stores has to be unpleasant. So unpleasant, in fact, that we find ourselves doing anything to avoid it.
