Doing A SOAF would be fun'

As she returns to our screens in new drama Nolly, we catch up with acting legend Helena Bonham Carter

Doing A SOAF would be fun'

She’s a stalwart of British acting who has enjoyed huge roles in everything from the Harry Potter franchise to The King’s Speech and The Crown, so

there’s no denying Helena Bonham Carter has an impressive roster under her belt. But despite the fact she’s one of the UK’s most celebrated actors, who has taken home a total of 38 awards from the likes of the BAFTAs and Emmys over her 30-plus years in the industry, it might come as a surprise to hear that Helena hasn’t always had confidence in herself.

The 56-year-old tells Woman how, in the early days of her career, she was treated differently to her male counterparts and admitted she didn’t feel sexy enough for a career in Hollywood. She explains, ‘I remember going to America for the first time when I was about 19 or 20. I just felt so deficient because my legs didn’t go on for six years... I wasn’t particularly sexual. I didn’t have the right body. I thought “There’s no career for me here.”’
