Samantha Giles on her big return and bringing some comedy to the Dales

Bernice Blackstock has become one of the most well-loved characters in soap land, and after two years away from our screens actor Samantha Giles is bringing her back to Emmerdale for a short run later this month.

For Samantha, 54, it came at a good time. Having just wrapped up a kids' TV series, she was delighted to be asked back to bring some much-needed comedy on to our screens.

We caught up with Samantha, who has two daughters, Eve, 17, and Olivia, 13, with husband Sean, to talk about Bernice's brief return, what fans can expect, and her memories of working on the Dales.

How has your summer been?

Quite busy with the kids, it goes on forever! You think you can't wait for them to get back to school... it's quite challenging - you realise how expensive it is! I'm a jobbing actor again, so not working for most of the summer holidays, I'm realising how much it all costs!

So you're back in Emmerdale! How did it come about?

Well, I just had an email from my agent earlier on in the year asking if I would come back for four or five episodes.

I didn't know straight away as I didn't want to take a step backwards but it is so nice to just pop back. If they'd asked me to go back permanently at the moment I would have probably said no because I'm enjoying being back out there and doing other things.
