Kerre got out of a tight spot after the rugby thanks to some fine young men

They say you should walk a mile in someone else's shoes to understand their situation. On a recent Saturday night, I found myself almost literally living out the adage.

I wasn't in Mum's shoes exactly, but I was walking alongside her snazzy sneakers and it gave me an insight into what it must be like to find your mobility limited.

Up until three years ago, Mum used to play 18 holes of golf at least three times a week. But in recent times, she can't walk the distances she used to. She's also developed asthma since she's lived in Auckland.

I didn't think there'd be too many problems, though, when I took her as my guest to the rugby recently. I'd been lucky enough to have been given an invite to a box and there was a P5 ticket that allowed our taxi to drop us at the door, so it was a breeze getting Mum there.
