Why Cameron left Hollywood and who lured her back!
-
Cameron Diaz says the decade she spent in retirement was “the best 10 years” of her life.
The Charlie’s Angels star, 52, has returned to the big screen in new spy thriller Back in Action, but she’s making no promises for the future.
“I have a family now – everything else comes second,” says the actor, who became a first-time mum to daughter Raddix, five, at 47, and then welcomed son Cardinal in March last year. Both children were born by surrogate.
Cameron’s last role was as Ms Hannigan in the 2014 remake of Annie and she turned down all acting opportunities after that, wanting instead to focus on starting a family with her Good Charlotte guitarist
husband Benji Madden, 45. “Everybody would be like, ‘Would you like to...’ ‘No.’
“You know, there’s this thing...’ ‘I don’t care.’ “Would you like to join us...’ ‘Nope.’“And then people stopped asking.”
It was Cameron’s good pal, Django Unchained actor Jamie Foxx, 57, who finally lured the Shrek star out of retirement.
The actor says when she received the script for Back in Action – about a married couple who are forced back into the spy world – she told Benji, “Maybe it’s time to switch it up for the family a little bit because, you know, it’s Jamie.”
And despite the 10-hour days, she loved being back on set, doing many of her own stunts.
