EATING OUT

We'll always have Paris...

World-renowned for its delicate macarons and pastries, French nonpareil Ladurée has more than 90 addresses around the world, including Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Dubai... and now, Cape Town! In the 1950s, Pierre Desfontaines (grand-cousin of Ladurée's founder Louis-Ernest Ladurée) imagined the macaron as we know it today: double-shelled, with a melting heart of ganache. His creation became the brand's signature menu item. Look out for the pistachio-green storefront at the V&A Waterfront. ladureesa.co.za

Tucked away in Gardens, just off Kloof Street, Ongetem – meaning 'untamed' – is chef Bertus Basson's first inner-city restaurant and bar. Expect all the innovative food, minus the formality of its upscale counterparts: Here, 'the knives are sharp, the jokes are inappropriate, and the food... Well, let's just say it slaps,' says Bertus. The menu reimagines South African classics, dishing them up alongside excellent cocktails. True to its name, Ongetem is bold, flavour-forward and fun. ongetem.com
