Princess Catherine THE REALITY OF A NEW NORMAL

At a time when we are all looking optimistically at what the year may bring, it's not hard to imagine that Catherine, Princess of Wales will be moving forward with immense relief and gratitude after sharing that she is now in remission from cancer. Gratitude for the unwavering support from her devoted husband and family, gratitude for the love and care shown around the world while she underwent treatment and gratitude for a future that could have been very different.

"As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal," Princess Catherine said in a statement. "I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead."

During an emotional visit to Royal Marsden Hospital, where the princess underwent her treatment, she talked openly and honestly, displaying the genuine empathy for which she has become renowned. She connected with fellow patients over the "shock" of chemotherapy treatment and emphasised the importance of keeping a positive mindset, but also spoke first-hand of the remaining battle, both physical and mental, that she is still fighting.

image"You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that's still a real challenge," shared Catherine. "It's hard to get back to normal."

And after living an emotional year of unknowns alongside a sudden increase in discussion that she and Prince William may be stepping forward as king and queen earlier than expected, it's hard to know what normal is.

The one aspect that will be certain in the princesses' mind is the hope that this year will have none of the challenges of last. Looking back over the past 12 months of turmoil for the royals is harrowing.
