ACROSS THE DREAM STATE MY IMMERSIVE ADVENTURE THROUGH WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The journey through Western Australia is far more than scenic stops. It unfolds as a vivid exploration of contrasts, where contemporary life blends seamlessly with raw natural beauty. I got to experience it first hand in September, as part of a travel trade media delegation, when we set out on an immersive journey through Perth and its spectacular surrounds.
From sun-kissed coastlines to captivating outback adventures, Western Australia unfolded like a living canvas of contrasts and connections.
A Warm Western Welcome
Touching down in Perth, the gateway to Western Australia, the evening began with a warm check-in at the Duxton Hotel, the elegant and impressive five-star address in the heart of the city.
But Perth's charm soon called us outdoors. Trading conventional transport for something delightfully different, we embarked on a 'Peddle Perth' rickshaw tour, a lively 90-minute ride weaving through laneways and city icons downtown. There was a chill in the air, but it did little to dampen the mood as the tour traced attractions like the Stirling Garden's unique installations and the vibrant street art of Wolf Lane, where New York artist Maya Hayuk's kaleidoscopic murals splashed colour across old brick walls.
The ride ended at Elizabeth Quay, where the elegant curve of the bridge caught the last light of day as it stretched across the Swan River. Here stood the striking First Contact sculpture, a 5 metre Noongar bird artwork that tells of ancient encounters and enduring connections.
Dinner followed at Six Senses The Quay, where steaming bowls of Tom Yum Goong provided welcome warmth after the chilly ride. To wrap up the evening, we headed to Kings Park, where the city skyline shimmered beneath the night sky. The panoramic views were a perfect finale to our first day.
Western Australia's Coastal Wonder
