Lyndey Milan rides the rails in high style on a journey to experience Vietnam's rich culture and vibrant cuisine.
Sipping a bespoke welcome cocktail, sinking my teeth into a mini banh mi and relaxing in an intimate, elegant train carriage, I feel only the joy of travel, not the challenges. There are no airport queues or delays aboard The Vietage by Anantara, with all the charm and service of yesteryear. It's pure pampering for the 200 kilometres from Nha Trang in Vietnam to Quy Nhon, on the south central coast where western visitors are few and the landscape serene.
Travel is not only about the change of scenery, sights and smells of new places; food underpins all as an insight into history and culture – so why not enjoy it from the outset? Especially the exciting cuisine of Vietnam with its French, Chinese and Japanese influences.
Inaugurated by Minor Hotels (owner of Anantara) as an innovative and stylish way to transport guests between two fabulous resorts in Hoi An and Quy Nhon, The Vietage is a 12-seat custom-designed carriage which couples to the regular train. Non-guests can book but Anantara offers seamless air-conditioned transport to and from their resorts.
