Hannah Brandler catches up with Quincy Williams, New York Jets linebacker, ahead of the 2025 NFL London Games

Kick us off by describing what drew you to American football?
My siblings played football, and it was an opportunity for camaraderie. My family made me play a sport every single season to try them all out, and I fell in love with football. I was actually a junior Olympic swimmer first, but ended up picking football to extend my career and get a college degree.
Describe the atmosphere on the field during a game.
It's electric, with all the crowds and different jerseys. My favourite part is hearing the crowd behind you after you have a big hit.
You're playing the Denver Broncos on 12 October in London. How do UK audiences differ to those in the US?
American fans are more critical. They let you know how they feel, and which calls they think you should have made. Meanwhile in London they just want to watch great NFL football - there's not too much criticism. Last year, the New York Jets played the Minnesota Vikings in London, but we saw all kinds of team jerseys in the crowd. I got the chance to hang out with some of the fans during my off-season and hear how the sport has grown over here. The Spurs team also came to the US and played at MetLife Stadium last summer.
How do you normally travel to the games?
The NFL charters a plane, so it’s just the teams and the staff onboard. I always bring my Firefly Recovery device, which helps with circulation on long flights, and wear my compression tights. We usually fly in the day before the game, so preparation is critical. Then, once I get off the plane, I usually get a massage.
How often are you travelling?
