The PX3 is all but identical to its Pro sibling- and that's not a bad thing
-
If you're one of the growing sea of people looking to take the ultra-shortthrow projector (UST) plunge, a unit from Hisense may well be on your shopping list. And for good reason: the Chinese tech giant's recent offerings have impressed us and cemented the brand’s dominant position in UST circles.
The company’s ‘Laser Cinema’ category of UST projectors, where you will find the PX3, sits above its cheaper ‘Laser TV’ options and so targets the upper echelons of UST projectors.
Sibling rivalry
The PX3 sits alongside its sibling, the PX3 Pro, and, although that might signal a certain superfluity, the bigger spanner in the works is the existence of the Hisense PL2, which costs less (£1999) and has comparable specifications to the PX3.
The PX3 has a utilitarian design, with an angular metallic finish and a slightly aggressive-looking metal front grille, which houses the unit's inbuilt 50W per channel Harmon Kardon sound system. IIt has a very short 0:22:1 throw ratio that lets it sit incredibly close to a wall and throw up an 80-150in image.
That should make set-up relatively simple, but we still find it a little finicky as there is no physical lens control.
