xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, has secured $20 billion in a Series E funding round, surpassing its initial $15 billion target.

XAI RAISES $20 BILLION IN SERIES E AS FUNDING EXPANDS ALONGSIDE REGULATORY SCRUTINY

The financing places xAI among the largest private capital raises in the AI sector to date and comes during a period of unusually large investments across the industry in 2025.

According to the company, the round includes strategic participation from Nvidia and Cisco through their investment arms, alongside other institutional backers. Industry estimates cited by investors place xAI's post-money valuation at roughly $230 billion, reflecting the aggressive pricing seen in late-stage AI financings over the past year.

xAI said the new capital will be directed primarily toward expanding its computing infrastructure and further developing Grok, the chatbot integrated into the social platform X. The company is focusing on large-scale data center capacity to support model training and inference as demand for compute-intensive AI systems continues to rise.

As part of the funding announcement, xAI outlined plans to build and expand large GPU clusters across three data center sites. These facilities are expected to be powered by more than 200,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, positioning xAI among the largest private operators of advanced AI hardware.
