Apple is giving sports fans one of their most requested features: widgets for the Apple Sports app. With the latest update, users can now pin live scores, upcoming games, and personalized team updates directly to their iPhone, iPad, or Mac home screens. The change marks the app's biggest step forward since its launch and signals Apple's ambition to make Apple Sports a core part of its growing sports media strategy.

HOW THE WIDGETS WORK

The new widgets provide real-time data for major leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, and leading international soccer competitions such as the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga. Fans can configure widgets to follow a favorite team, highlight a marquee matchup, or display an entire week of scheduled games.

On the iPhone and iPad, widgets can be placed on both the home screen and lock screen, with Live Activities expanding in real time during games. On the Mac, widgets appear in the Notification Center, giving desktop users access to the same up-to-date stats without switching away from work. Apple says the design prioritizes “glanceability”, meaning the most important information is always visible in the simplest format.

imageWHY APPLE SPORTS MATTERS

Apple launched the Sports app earlier this year as a free companion to its ecosystem, aiming to give fans a fast, centralized source of scores, standings, and stats. The app is lightweight compared to ESPN or Bleacher Report, but Apple has leveraged its system-level Defending champions LAFC kick off their repeat quest against LA Galaxy in El Tráfico. advantages: instant notifications, clean design, and integration with other Apple services.
