GRINDING COFFEE
T3 India
|December 2023
Coffee subreddits, the distilled intelligence of our times, loudly proclaim that the budget for a coffee grinder should always be equal to, if not more than, that of the espresso machine. But why do we really need a grinder in the first place?

Grinding coffee fresh fills up the room with an aroma that everyone finds appealing. It triggers our minds to anticipate a delicious cup coming up. Not only that, the opportunity to smell the aroma of freshly ground coffee before we brew it can enhance how we experience the coffee itself, allowing us to create a stronger memory around the experience, which considerably helps as we taste different coffees.
Grinder technology has leaped ahead with every passing year, and now there are grinders engineered for every specific coffee brewing need. The array of choices and options can be overwhelming, so here’s a ready reckoner to make the decision a bit easier.
TYPES OF GRINDERS
Mortar Pestle: In the absence of anything specialized let’s do it the way our ancestors did.
Grinding wheel
Blade Grinders: These grinders have chopping blades that are not adjustable. They also typically result in inconsistent grind and are not considered seriously for grinding specialty coffee.
