Duncan Bell is feeling the heat

Despite having more fans than Man United, keeping cool in a heatwave proves to be no easy task

Hopefully, you are not reading this while sat in a house where the temperature has hit the high 20s, and we can now nostalgically say: “Do you remember the great heatwave of July 2022? You know: about three weeks ago.” I was there and let me tell you: it was stressful, even though I was ready for it.

Due to my extreme versatility and low boredom threshold, I have various jobs, including golf editor and kitchen editor. Another thing I’ve become saddled with over the years is covering fans and, more recently, portable air conditioners. As you can imagine, for most of the year this is something of a chore. However, for a few days every summer, I am extremely grateful to have this important responsibility.
