More people have been to the Moon than some of the places I've dived.

Jill Heinerth THE CANADIAN CAVE DIVER, EXPLORER AND FILMMAKER ON UNKNOWN UNDERWATER WORLDS, TAKING RISKS AND BEING A SIXTIES KID

There's a lot of times when I'm exploring a cave that nobody's ever been to, and probably nobody ever will return there.Solrecognise that the data, the images, the stories I bring out from these remote places are really important and I need to share them with the world.

I know I'm doing something that's very risky.

In all frankness I've lost more than a hundred friends to cave and technical diving accidents. So that is at the front of my mind, and I don't really get an adrenaline rush like some people might expect. I'm interested in thenew, in trying to capture unique places, so I'm really in that creative mindset.lam an artist-that's my original training-sol'mreally locked into that artistic sensibility.

My husband gets a veto.

I feel like the risks have to be worth it. Our sense of risk evolves through life as we gain wisdom and experience, but also as we gain deep personal connections. Obviously my choices affect my partner directly, sol give him veto power to say he's really not comfortable with that team or that destination.

It's hard to put a dividing line between work and play.

My husband jokes, "My god, does everything have to be an expedition, even going to the grocery store?" It doesn't feel like work-I would do it regardless, and I sort of pinch myself every day for finding a way to fulfil this dream as an underwater explorer.
