Old heroes join the fray in the latest chapter of Nintendo’s strategy epic, restoring classic elements while stripping the fat of later entries

Sure, they’re not as iconic as Mario or Zelda, but Fire Emblem’s bulging roster of noble warriors have been going strong for more than 30 years now. And after making the jump to full 3D with 2019’s Three Houses, this instalment has something of a ‘greatest hits’ look.

It’s set on an all-new continent, with an original story, but the cast list pulls heavily from past games. These heroes of old are backseat companions that give your characters stat buffs or special moves, and don’t overshadow the new additions – of which there are plenty.
