LG OLED65G3

There’s more to a great OLED television than a great OLED panel,  of course. But you have to start somewhere – and given that LG is the supplier of OLED panels to every single TV manufacturer out there, that’s as good a place as any. The company does appear to be at an advantage… and with its G3 range, that advantage seems to be growing.

The sixth generation of LG’s outstanding Alpha 9 processor is running the G3 show – which means loads more individual zones for HDR optimisation and better-balanced audio. It means the complete gaming experience, thanks to four HDMI inputs that can exploit every one of your current-gen console’s smart features. And it means the sort of authority over even the trickiest content (such as sport) that ensures it’s always a natural watch.

But probably the biggest advantage of the lot is the Micro Lens Array tech that uses billions of tiny lenses to focus the light output of the panel’s pixels. MLA means the G3 is much, much brighter than you’re expecting from an OLED screen – but it doesn’t use any more energy than a regular OLED. And along with increased brightness, there’s more vibrancy and punch to the G3’s images than those of the model it replaces.

Add in the best version yet of webOS, skinny good looks (LG is so sure you’ll want to put your G3 on the wall that it doesn’t even supply a stand) and all-round picture-quality excellence, and you’re looking at a TV for which ‘compelling’ is not too strong a word.
