Gaming isn't just a game anymore-it's a career path, a social playground, and a cultural shift. For parents, it's not about saying "no," but learning to guide, support, and grow with the players of tomorrow-one quest, one conversation at a time

A parent's guide to gaming in 2025

Gaming is no longer just a pastime—it's a global cultural and economic force. In 2025, it's set to generate over $345 billion worldwide, with India emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets. But as children start gaming younger and the boundaries between entertainment, career, and community blur, parents find themselves navigating a world that didn't exist a decade ago.

The question now isn't whether kids will game-it's how parents should guide them through it.

Gaming is growing-and so are the opportunities

According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), gaming in India is undergoing a dual transformation. First, it's increasingly seen as a legitimate career path, with nearly 15% of serious gamers considering it their full-time job. A significant 38% of them earn up to ₹50,000 monthly, largely through brand partnerships and content monetization.

Second, the sector is shedding its traditionally male-dominated identity. Women are actively entering competitive and creative roles in the gaming space, with 1 in 5 aspiring professional gamers now being women—40% of whom are training in eSports, up 15% year-on-year.

As Sugandha Srivastava, Senior Analyst at CMR, puts it:

“The future of gaming careers isn’t just about playing games—there’s esports, streaming, game development, shout casting, and more. All that is required is the right guidance to make it work.”

Breaking the stereotype: Not just for boys

Gaming is becoming more inclusive—and more balanced.

CMR’s data shows that parental attitudes are shifting, especially for daughters. Parents are twice as likely to support gaming as a career for girls who play skill-based genres like FPS or strategy games, versus casual mobile games. The visibility of female gaming stars—like Xyaa or Mysterious—is playing a key role in changing these perceptions.
